Illustrated explanation of an apparent price and
shipping anomaly in our Shopping Cart
Due to what I consider a design flaw in Microsoft's bCentral shopping cart,
item and shipping costs are sometimes figured in a confusing way. This occurs
when a quantity option is chosen from the drop-down list. The actual
calculations are correct, but are confusing to understand. Microsoft does not
have a way to correct this, so we are soon changing to another shopping cart
software brand.
Here is an illustrated explanation of this anomaly, using actual snapshots of
our shopping cart:
| In the illustration below, we are ordering one group of 25 blue LED
bulbs. By ordering 25, we're saving 20% off the regular price of $2.50
each. Thus, 25 bulbs times $2.50 = $62.50
Less 20% ($12.50) = $50.00
Look at the line highlighted in blue. It reads, "25 Blue bulbs--Save
20% (price + $47.50 / shipping + $10.00)"
Everything in parentheses is added automatically by bCentral shopping
cart software. This is the confusing part...hold onto your seat...
What it means is that for this option (to save 20% when buying a
bundle of 25 bulbs), you must add the stated price for one single bulb
($2.50) plus $47.50 for the other 24 bulbs. This equals $50.00
altogether.
Likewise, the shipping cost for this option is determined by adding
the shipping cost for one single bulb to the shipping cost of the
others. In this case, one bulb's shipping cost is $0.50 (shipping cost
for a single item is programmed by me--behind the scenes--and is based
on the size and weight of a single item). If you add the shipping for
the first bulb to the additional shipping of $10.00 for the remaining 24
bulbs, your total is $10.50.
Final price is $50.00 for 25 bulbs plus $10.50 shipping. Read more

we've ordered the 25 Blue LED bulbs.Note that the shopping cart has
calculated our discounted price correctly ($50.00) and the standard
shipping is correctly billed at $10.50.
